The Waves
'The unreal world must be round all this—the phantom waves. […] Could one not get the waves to be heard all through? Or the farmyard noises? Some odd irrelevant noises.' (Virginia Woolf on June 23rd 1929, A Writer’s Diary)
The Waves is a radiophonic composition inspired by Virginia Woolf’s novel of the same name.
The piece is divided into 6 five-minute sections that each explore one theme or episode from the novel:
1. Prologue
2. Chorus I: Dawn
3. Chorus II: The Garden
4. Chorus III: Hampton Court
5. The Roar of Time
6. Epilogue
The Waves was originally produced in its serialized form for Sonic Field and has since been played at Radiophrenia, Borealis Festival, Zwitschermaschine Berlin, and Mixtape@DkIT.
It is available on Bandcamp as part of the compilation Water, Sound, City.
